A Sweet Start 🍓
Our first tasting is the Riverland Rose Vodka from Twenty Third Street Distillery in South Australia.
This rose vodka is a beautiful delicate vodka with rose and other floral elements. Lily Blacks described it “ Sticking your nose in a boozy bouquet of flowers” ;)
We have paired this with dried blueberries, dates and apricots.
Why Are They Paired?
Dried fruit always goes great with vodka!
Vodka is a neutral spirit so the persevered fruit go really well with that particular liquor. The dried apricot leaves a nice aftertaste as it overpowers the vodka and the blueberries add a bit of sweetness to it. See if you can sense the muskyness of the vodka after taking a bit out of the dried date. So many flavours in one bite!
Gin-tastic 🍸
Our next tasting is another delicious spirit from the Twenty Third Street Distillery, Gin!
Twenty Third distillery actually barrel age their gin in bourbon barrels. Bourbon barrels can only be used once so they get shipped to places all over the world so this distillery has not only found a new job for these barrels but have also introduced a great new flair to a classic gin.
We have paired this with triple cream French brie with citrus marmalade topped with Thai basil.
Why Are They Paired?
Look for the wood characteristics from this particular gin. The smell of juniper is still prevalent but due to the way this gin was aged, it does bring more oak to the flavour. The oaky flavour is a great combination with the french brie as it adds a real buttery softness to the front of the pallet when combined.
