The Italian Stallion 🌋

Our first wine is the 2017 La La land - Vermentino from Murray Darling, Victoria.

This is a particular wine that is indigenous to Sardinia in Sicily where it is planted on the side of the side of Mt. Etna and is known for the minerality it gains due to the volcanic soil there and is traditionally partnered with seafood. Next time your in Sicily, you know which wine to get!

We have paired this rich wine with in house smoked nuts to get you started. These are smoked here at Juliet and beautifully smoked with paprika cumin and cayenne pepper.

This is a richer more aromatic style kind of wine. Notice the fresh orchards, citrus zest and a hint of herbs balanced with a fine acidity making it a great sip! The smokiness of the nuts bring outs the sweet fruit in this wine making a great combination of sweet and savoury for those taste buds!

The All Natural Sensation 🍇

Our next wine is the fresh and natural 2018 Amarit Chardonnay from Mornington, Victoria.

This wine is what is known as a “low intervention” wine with natural wild yeast fermentation from oak barrels. There’s no finning, no filtration and minimal sulphur. You want to think of barrel fermentation like it’s portrayed on TV with those big wood barrels in the vineyard filled with purple grapes! This way of fermentation is really great for extracting different flavours and is a great option instead of the large concrete vats or stainless steel tanks.

We have paired this with a delicious house made arancini rice balls fried and accompanied with a roasted sweet pepper coulis.

The nuttiness and minerality in this wine compliment the sweet smokiness the arancini ball. The eggplant and tomato are not too intrusive for the taste of the wine and the allow the creaminess of the wine to come out. See if can tate the mix of sweetness and the mineral finish on your palate.

The Under Dog

Our final tasting is the new “it” wine of the block, the 2017 La La Land Malbec from Murray Darling, Victoria.

This wine was neglected for decades in France as a lesser blending grape. They did not think the flavours or blend of the grape would be worth the work. Argentina believed in the wine and resurrected the Malbec and championed it to make it an excellent single varietal. Now its made a massive splash in Australia and is currently the “must try” wine for many wine lovers!

We have paired this wine with Mount Zero house marinated olives from the Grampians in Victoria. The Mount Zero olive grove is one of the oldest graves in the Australia. It is still family run with a great philosophy! They aim to respect the environment, the people of the region and the customers that consume their goods. Juliet uses a mixture of their olives and house marinate them in oil with citrus, aromatics and spices including star anise, coriander and fennel seeds, and cinnamon.

You will find that that the fruit in this wine really soften the sharp salted note in the olives, while the olive aromatics bring out a rounded flavour in the wine. See if you can taste the wine has aromatics of black cherry, plum and violets with a spicy mocha background in the wine.
